Motherhood & Children

Unborn children and infants may not eat a lot, but they have one thing in common, they need high quality nutrition. During the extremely delicate time in a human's life, during fetal development and infancy, the growing body needs adequate nutrition. More than any other time of life, their bodies are growing more rapidly than they ever will again in a human's life. In fact, the rate of growth from conception to one year of age is staggering.

Therefore, it is vital to provide high quality nutrition to pregnant mothers and women who breastfeed. The mother's body will often cause itself a deficiency in order to provide for the nutritional demands of the fetus and infant. Nutritional deficiencies can cause severe complications during pregnancy, even causing a spontaneous abortion or premature labor. Unfortunately, this may also cause the woman to become infertile, irreparably damaging her reproductive abilities.

Modern women, also, tend to rely on commercial supplements to provide food for her growing baby. While infant formula does have its place, in the absence of a mother, due to unforeseen circumstances, breast milk is best. While many women may argue that it is unsightly or disgusting, partially due to society and the media oversexualizing the mammary glands, women are mammals.

Since the beginning of mankind, women have been breasting feeding their babies for the first years of their lives. Breast milk is a complete food which contains all the essential amino acids, folic acid, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and antibodies a baby needs to become a healthy human.

The fats and proteins in mother's milk are tiny and easily assimilated with little digestion in the baby's body, unlike proteins from infant formula or animal milks, which are large and mostly indigestible. Further, animal milk and formula fall short in providing a well-rounded nutritional profile and the essential proteins and fatty acids a human baby needs to become fully developed. In addition, a baby's delicate system is not equipped to break down the nutrients found in formulas and animal milks, this often leads to nutritional deficiencies, upset stomachs and illness.

Prenatal Vitamins

The FDA recommends that pregnant women eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as lean sources of proteins, since during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the needs of the baby and mother can be especially great. The FDA has declared that as little as 0.8mg of folic acid found in food supplements is more effective than getting the same amount from food sources. Woman need 0.4 to 0.8mg of folic acid daily to reduce the risk of birth defects and possible miscarriages or bleeding. Read More
